WorldPeople is our weekly series to introduce you to the amazing people we meet on our journey – and share the life lessons we’ve learned from spending time with fellow WorldTowners, as well as locals.
Occupation: Creator of everything
Birth country: Italy
Age: 30 something
What makes Liza a wonderful human: She values cultural exchanges of all sorts.
We did our first WorkAway in Italy with Liza and her family on their horse ranch. We had no idea what to expect from this experience. We just knew we had committed to work 4-5 hours a day and help with meals, all under the Tuscan sun. Not a bad deal. We figured if it was not a good fit for us we would walk away with another perspective on WorldTowning and file it under new experiences, but we were hopeful it would be magical.
Wow, did we get more than we bargained for, in a good way! We were welcomed into the coolest WorkAway family ever. In addition, we got to meet the locals and mix with other volunteers. Overall we walked away from this experience wanting to do it again. Spoiler alert, we will do another one in Northern Ireland in August.
Liza and her family run a riding school. They are masters at teaching the art of horseback riding. If they could get me back in the saddle after Normandy you know they must be good. Throughout the year they give lessons and participate in competitions, but when summer arrives they focus on kid camps. Kids come to the school for up to a week at a time to learn the art of riding, enjoy amazing meals cooked by Liza and mingle with other kids. This is Liza’s busiest time of the year as she is responsible for feeding all the students. Boy, can she cook! I grew a whole new appreciation for Italian cooking after eating her dishes.
During the off-season, Liza maintains her own property, travels to cool places in Africa and explores her entrepreneurial desires. She is one creative lady. During our time at the farm, we learned about different kinds of jam, pasta, and fruit leather, candle making, care of horses and so much more. Liza is the type of person who always has something going on. She is full of life and curious to learn. We are all happy to call her our friend. Another meet up is definitely in order.
